I wasn’t a huge fan of the Marvellous Creations chocolate bars – probably because I’m more of a dark chocolate eater, and I found some of the combinations a little odd (Clinkers and gummy bears, for example). I was, however, intrigued by the new range of Marvellous Creations ice creams, and couldn’t resist when they appeared on special in my weekly online shop (they’re normally around $8.50 for a box of four)
There are three different concoctions – Jelly, Choc Honeycomb & Cookie; Jelly, Popping Candy & Beanies; and Banana Candy, Bubblegum Fudge & Cookie. I didn’t really like the sound of banana candy or bubblegum fudge, so decided just to try the other two varieties.
As you can see, these ice creams are unique and playful before you even tuck in.
Biting into the Jelly, Choc Honeycomb & Cookie combo, it’s immediately obvious that these ice-creams are a quality item, and one for the adults to enjoy as well as the kids (if you’re generous enough to share with them). The ice-cream (made by Bulla) is really creamy – not strong at all on the vanilla, but as a vehicle for the chocolate and other fillings it works nicely.
I felt that the size & distribution of fillings was just right – a few in each mouthful is just enough, and there’s nothing big enough to cause dental issues! The cookie pieces are in the chocolate on the outside of the ice cream and add a nice crunch. This was quite nice indeed, and a change from Magnums etc which i tend to find rather boring.
Moving over to the Jelly, Popping Candy & Beanies I discovered where the real delight is – the popping candy embedded in the chocolate. This was a truly unique experience, and there was enough candy to keep my mouth on a rolling crackle through the whole ice cream. Add in the other ingredients and this is a really nice sweet treat. I must confess that we’ve already bought (and eaten) a second box of these – even at full price, they are well worth it. Box three might even creep into this week’s shopping…
Talking of odd flavours, this one is from the UK!
It’s Easter time as I right this, and I see that the range has been converted into bunny & egg form, both with the popping candy in so I would expect them to be rather nice too. (image from couturing.com)
…although nothing will ever beat the delight of a Cadbury Creme Egg – and of course there are so many things you can do with them!
